The Magus Circle Steam Next Fest Recap
The demo opened on 23 February 2026. Here is what players saw and what By Witchlight wrote afterward.
Steam Next Fest in February 2026 was the first time a huge crowd drew sigils in The Magus Circle. The Magus Circle Demo (app 4289390) opened on 23 February 2026. By Witchlight later thanked players in a Steam community post titled “That’s Steam Next Fest!” More than 21,000 people stepped into the circle. The demo’s review roll landed Very Positive: 163 reviews, 98% positive, at the snapshot this wiki recorded.
This page is a recap, not a live scoreboard. Review counts move. Demo listings appear and disappear. If you want the full-game calendar, use the release date page — Steam lists 24 September 2026 for app 2796640. If you want to know whether you can still download the festival build, look at Steam itself and our demo guide.
What the festival build asked you to do
The pitch did not change for Next Fest. Magic is art. You do not tap a hotkey to fire a named spell. You draw the arcane sigil, the game reads a crude shape, and the spell in that HUD slot answers. Messy lines still count. You do not need to be an illustrator. A mouse is enough; a tablet is optional comfort, not a requirement. Details for practice sit in How to Draw Spells and the spell sigils lookup.
Runs still follow a survivor-like loop: waves of mana-hungry monsters, chests, level-up choices, and a circle you hold while the Tide presses in. The store promises more than 250 unique upgrades across the full project, with every run forcing you to adapt to the hand you are dealt. The demo showed a slice of that: Ice Spear hunting strong targets, meteor strikes, water torrents from the Riptide family, chain lightning, magic missile, and Spellblade among the named tools players actually drew. Rankings for those tools live on the spell tier list and the broader tier list.
Between failures you returned to the Magus Mansion: tea, familiars, tarot-style spends, and conversations. The demo framed this as the first of six mages from the full game. Players met Milk and Matcha in that slice; Rum and the rest of the roster are covered on the players hub. Start with Milk, Rum, and Matcha if you are sorting faces after the trailer.
Bosses and Leviathan-style bookends taught people to stop doodling during telegraphs. If that was your pain point, read How to Beat Bosses and How to Play after this recap.
The thank-you post, line by line
By Witchlight’s Next Fest note opened with a greeting to witches, warlocks, and wizards of ambiguous origin. The useful bits for this wiki:
- Volume: over 21,000 first-time players.
- Feedback: bug reports were called invaluable. The team said it was squashing bugs and optimizing, with a joke about vanquishing Nivek the bug wizard.
- Content they named next: more characters, more maps, more spells, more upgrades, more hub-world activities, more sass from Curio, and more mysteries.
- Patreon pointer: patreon.com/cw/TheMagusCircle for dev diaries, unique wallpapers, music files, and a possible extra demo around the end of March. That March extra-demo line is historical. It is what the follow-up post said after Next Fest. It is not a current promise on this page.
Curio, for players who only watched the trailer, is the mansion bird whose cage label does not say “Mr. Crow.” The studio promising more sass is a writing goal, not a patch note with a version number.
What Next Fest did not decide
The festival did not print a price. The full game still has no price listed. It did not flip Steam Deck compatibility off Unknown. It did not add a confirmed Trello. It did not turn the game into a session for two people on one PC. The Magus Circle is single-player. Draw with one hand, pause with the other, drink your own tea.
Hardware was a quiet surprise for some downloaders. The full-game store quotes 500 MB. Next Fest demo depots were about 2.2 GB on disk. Keep extra space; the system requirements page records both numbers. Platforms stayed Windows, macOS, and Linux. Languages stayed English and Korean.
After the festival
If the demo is still listed, treat it as practice, then wishlist the full game. If it is gone, the trailer on this page plus Getting Started is enough to remember how a run feels. Keep Discord, YouTube @TheMagusCircle, and the links index close. The Updates Hub will catch the next official post. The wishlist checklist is the boring, correct next click.
Next Fest proved the joke landed: people will draw spears in a bullet-heaven if the recognition is kind and the mansion is weird. By Witchlight asked everyone to stretch their casting hands. That is still the assignment until Steam’s 24 September 2026 listing either holds or moves.
