Matcha in The Magus Circle
Green hair, antlers, tea, and a kit the store has not fully printed.
Matcha is the second portrait on The Magus Circle’s character-select rail and the face of the Magus Mansion tea room. Official socials ran a short titled Meet Matcha. A Steam screenshot shows her in a tatami room with a koi pond, a gong, bonsai, and a teacup table — the “raise your familiars and enjoy some tea” line from the store page made literal.
This page is an identity guide, not a fake ability card. By Witchlight has not published Matcha’s combat passive in the same tooltip detail as Milk’s Nimble and Bunny Form. Inventing a heal, a poison, or a tea-based ultimate would make this wiki wrong the week the 24 September 2026 build prints the real text. We write what the demo, the short, and the screenshots show, then tell you how to learn the rest in a run.
What we can actually see
- Look. Green hair, round glasses, antlers or horn-like branches, a pale coat. The HUD portrait in the tea-room shot is labeled Matcha.
- Hub. She stands on a cushion in a Japanese-inspired interior that is clearly a Magus Mansion room, not a Tide arena. Plants, scrolls, a pond with a fishing float. This is between-run space.
- Select screen. Matcha sits under Milk and above Coffee on the 0.4.6 rail. She was unlocked in that screenshot, unlike Anchan at 25 currency.
- Studio attention. An official Meet Matcha short exists. That is more marketing weight than Chicha currently has, and less mechanical text than Rum’s Spellblade video.
If a future patch adds a printed passive, this page should quote it the way Milk’s page quotes Nimble. Until then, open the in-game card and believe that card.
How to learn her kit in a run
The Magus Circle is single-player. You cannot bring Milk as a familiar and Matcha as a caster. You pick one face and draw.
- Read the in-run tooltip twice. Screenshot it if you stream. The mages hub will stay conservative until those words are public.
- Take the first spell you can actually finish. Drawing rules do not change by mage. How to draw spells and the spell sigils table still apply.
- Watch whether her identity wants you close or far. Milk wants near-misses. Rum wants Spellblade stacks. Matcha may want something else — duration, area, or a hub synergy. Let the first chest tell you.
- Die on purpose once. The mansion is where Matcha’s personality will show up in dialogue, tea, and familiars. How to play covers tarot and Odds.
Demo-era spell names you may still be offered: Ice Spear, Riptide (Quazar / Wattatsumi upgrades), meteor swarm, chain lightning, magic missile. Rank them on the spell tier list as Tide tools, not as Matcha uniques unless the card says so.
Why the tea room matters
Store copy for The Magus Circle is unusually domestic for a bullet hell. Meet other mages. Unlock abilities. Discover secrets in the Magus Mansion. Raise familiars. Drink tea. Matcha is the screenshot that proves the team is serious about the downtime.
That matters for builds because hub progress is the meta-progression. Tarot purchases persist in the way the demo showed: The Empress with Upright +10% Speed and Reversed +10% Mana Efficiency, The Priestess and Hierophant at +0.5 Mana Regen, The Emperor at +10% Duration, The Magus listing Bunny Form. Those cards are not Matcha-only. Buy speed if you cannot finish sigils. Buy regen if you abort circles. The upgrade tier list sorts types.
If you like the mansion more than the Tide, Matcha is still a combat mage. She will be thrown into the same World of Mirna, the same Leviathans, the same 10–15 minute extracts. Do not pick her expecting a visual novel with optional shooting. Pick her expecting a Tide run that starts and ends in a tea room.
Comparisons without fanfic stats
- Milk has numbers. If you need a first clear, take Milk. Return to Matcha when you can draw under pressure.
- Rum has a published signature and prestige names. If you want a defined combat fantasy today, Rum’s page is thicker.
- Coffee shares the green palette and also talks in the mansion (“It’s not a cauldron…”). Coffee is a different portrait on the rail, not Matcha’s last name.
- Chicha and Anchan have even less public text. Anchan was locked at 25 in the screenshot.
The character tier list will keep Matcha in a preview band with a caveat, not a fake S-tier heal kit.
Practical session plan
Wishlist the full game (Steam app 2796640) using the wishlist checklist. If the Next Fest demo that opened on 23 February 2026 is still listed as app 4289390, take Matcha into one short run after a Milk run. Compare how often you finish sigils. That comparison is worth more than a wiki rumor.
Hardware is the same for every mage: see system requirements. Mouse is enough. Tablet is optional. English and Korean are the store languages.
When the Leviathan appears, the advice is mage-agnostic: keep moving, finish one glyph, kite. How to beat bosses and the demo guide exist so this page does not pretend Matcha has a unique execute.
What this page will add later
On or after the date Steam lists — 24 September 2026 — we want: a quoted passive, a quoted signature spell if she has one, unlock cost if Anchan-style locks remain, and any tarot that names her. Until By Witchlight prints those lines, Matcha stays the tea-room mage with a confirmed playable slot and a Meet Matcha short. That is already more than most unreleased roguelites give you. It is not an excuse to fabricate a kit.
For the rest of the Circle, return to the mages hub. For calendar noise, use the release date page and Next Fest. Official Discord, Steam, and Patreon sit on Links.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Matcha playable in The Magus Circle?
Yes. She is the second portrait on the six-mage select screen. See the mages hub for the full rail.
What is Matcha's passive?
The studio has not printed a Milk-style tooltip in the materials this wiki used. Read the in-game card. Do not trust rumor kits.
Why is there a tea-room screenshot?
Matcha is shown in a Magus Mansion interior with a koi pond. Hub time is part of the loop — how to play explains tarot, tea, and familiars.
Should I start on Matcha?
Start on Milk if you need numbers. Take Matcha once you can finish sigils. Compare both on the character tier list.
Is Matcha the same as Coffee?
No. Coffee is a separate portrait and a mansion speaker. Matcha is the tea-room antlered mage.
