The Magus Circle The Magus Mansion Between Runs

Tea, familiars, tarot, Odds wagers, Spell Crafting, the title menu, and why death sends you here.

Magus Mansion Guide

The Magus Mansion is the building between Tides in The Magus Circle. A run is the field: you draw, the monsters close, a Leviathan may appear, you teleport home or you die. Either way you are back in the mansion. Store copy sells this on purpose: meet other mages, unlock abilities, discover secrets, raise familiars, drink tea. This page is that hub. Combat drawing lives on how to play. Stroke practice lives on how to draw spells. The mansion is not a pause menu and it is not a second player.

The Magus Circle is a single-player survival roguelite. Steam lists 24 September 2026. The Next Fest demo opened on 23 February 2026. Hub rooms, tarot values, and unlock prices can move. Quote the screenshot in front of you if a later build disagrees.

How you arrive

Boot the client and you get a title menu: New, Continue, Settings, Credits, Quit. Credits is a real overlay — a store screenshot shows a Credits panel next to art of a bunny-hatted witch at a desk, listing By Witchlight roles. New starts the story. Continue picks up mansion progress. Settings and Quit are what they say. After that first load, death does not dump you to desktop. Death returns you here.

Demo players often saw 10–15 minute extracts if they teleported after a Leviathan. One 30-minute recording met a boss near 13 minutes in the World of Mirna. Those timers belong to the Tide. The mansion is the room you spend the currency in. First-hour framing: getting started. Festival slice: demo.

Tea, familiars, and rooms that are not arenas

A Steam screenshot of a tatami interior with a koi pond, a gong, bonsai, and a teacup table is labeled Matcha. That is the “raise your familiars and enjoy some tea” line made literal. Matcha is also a playable portrait — see Matcha — but the room is mansion downtime, not a Tide map.

Another screenshot puts Coffee in a hall with purple drapes, lanterns, chests, and a round table holding a green bowl. Speaker label: Coffee. Line: “It’s not a cauldron. But I grant you the tools at hand leave much to be desired.” A Milk-like bunny witch and a small green-haired figure stand by the table. Coffee is both that speaker and the third playable select-rail mage. Do not collapse him into NPC-only. Full roster: players.

Familiars are a long-term project the studio flagged in store copy and in the Next Fest thank-you (more hub-world activities). This wiki will not invent a familiar stat sheet. Raise them. Drink the tea. Walk the rooms. Designer talk has also described drawing a circle around NPCs to interact instead of tapping E — treat that as the hub’s verb matching the Tide’s verb, and confirm it in your build.

Tarot: the cards we can actually quote

A tarot UI screenshot labeled 0.4.1 shows a spread and a purple-droplet wallet (77 in that shot). A Reverse button sits on the panel. Quoted cards:

  • The Empress — Upright +10% Speed. Reversed +10% Mana Efficiency.
  • The Priestess+0.5 Mana Regen.
  • The Hierophant+0.5 Mana Regen at T1.
  • The Emperor+10% Duration at T1.
  • The Magus — lists Bunny Form (Milk’s 3-second shrink-and-sprint tool).

Buy speed if you get clipped while drawing. Buy regen if you abort circles. Buy duration if your waves die early. Magus Bunny Form is on-theme for Milk and a maybe for everyone else — read the tooltip. Rank types, not 250 fake names, on the tarot/upgrades page.

Anchan showed locked at 25 of the same purple droplet on a 0.4.6 select shot. That 25 is a demo-era price, not a launch promise. Spend droplets on a tarot that fixes your last death before you rush the sixth portrait. Anchan is the lock page.

Odds is a bartender, not a mage

A mansion bar screenshot (fedora, bottle wall, gems) belongs to Odds. Dialogue: “Listen missy, I got a wager in need of levying and you got stakes in need of stakin’… if I’m not mistaken.” Odds is a bookie. Odds is not a seventh playable face. The six on the rail are Milk, Matcha, Coffee, Chicha, Rum, Anchan. Put Odds on a mage tier list and you have misread the building.

Take a wager when you understand the mage, not when you still confuse potions with spell slots. Extra variance is the point. Extra variance on run one is how you donate droplets.

Curio, and the sass the studio promised

After Next Fest, By Witchlight thanked more than 21,000 players and named what it wanted more of: characters, maps, spells, upgrades, hub-world activities, more sass from Curio, and more mysteries. Curio is a hub personality — the mansion bird whose cage is not labeled as a generic crow in studio talk. “More sass” is a writing goal from that thank-you post, not a patch file with a version number. Do not build a Curio kit page. Do not skip the rooms the team is clearly still packing with voice.

Spell Crafting: quote the card, including the typo

A hub UI titled Spell Crafting is the hero image on this page. Left column: a list of Magic Missile rows, each with a wand icon and a 10. Right card:

  • Name: Magic Missile
  • Body text: “Fire a continous stream of arcane projectiles from your cursor that target nearby monsters.”
  • Damage: 5
  • Duration: 10 sec
  • Mana Cost: 5

The screenshot misspells continuous as continous. Quote the card. The store and the UI may have typos. This wiki will not silently correct By Witchlight’s panel into a grammar lesson and then pretend the client matches. The sigil art on that card is a purple triangle with a slash — learn the shape in-game, not from a fan alphabet. Drawing notes and other named spells sit on spell sigils. Rank whether Magic Missile is worth a slot on the spell tier list.

Spell Crafting is a mansion-side look at a Tide tool. It does not replace drawing. You still have to finish the stroke when the pack is on your shoes.

Who talks here, who you take into the Tide

Playable portraits and hub speakers overlap on purpose. Story progress happens between runs. You still take one mage into the field.

  • Milk: bunny witch, often the left portrait in Coffee’s hall. Printed combat kit.
  • Matcha: tea room. Official Meet Matcha short.
  • Coffee: cauldron-that-is-not line. Playable third rail.
  • Chicha: fourth rail, green-gold, no public combat tooltip in our materials — Chicha.
  • Rum: Magus General, Spellblade. Rum.
  • Anchan: sixth, 25 lock, likely the blue horned combat caster.

Odds: NPC. Curio: NPC-shaped sass. Do not draft a party. The game is single-player.

A mansion pass that is worth the droplets

  1. Arrive from death or from a teleport. Do not alt-tab past the rooms.
  2. Talk to whoever has a nameplate. Coffee’s line is the tone. Odds is the temptation.
  3. Buy one tarot that matches the death, not three majors because they glow.
  4. Check Spell Crafting if you need to reread Magic Missile’s 5 / 10 sec / 5 before the next Tide.
  5. Look at Anchan’s lock only after you can finish a sigil.
  6. Start another Tide. The mansion will still have tea when that one ends too.

Challenges you pick after a victory (over 10 unique options in studio copy) change the next field, not the wallpaper. Leviathans still punish planted feet — how to beat bosses.

The Next Fest thank-you promised more hub activities before the date Steam lists. Treat 0.4.6 rooms as a slice. Wishlist app 2796640 if you have not. Specs: system requirements. Official channels: Links. Calendar: release date.

The Magus Mansion is the save room with opinions. Title menu in, death return, tarot spend, bartender wager, a Spell Crafting card that misspells continuous, a tea room that is actually a tea room. Walk it like a place. The Tide is the exam. This building is where the Circle tells you why you were summoned — and where it hands you tools it already admitted leave much to be desired.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

You return to the Magus Mansion with hub progress. Walk tarot, tea, familiars, and Odds, then start another Tide. Loop context: how to play.

Which tarot cards are confirmed?

Empress Upright +10% Speed / Reversed +10% Mana Efficiency; Priestess and Hierophant +0.5 Mana Regen; Emperor +10% Duration T1; Magus Bunny Form. Types: tarot/upgrades.

Is Odds a playable mage?

No. Odds is a Magus Mansion bartender-bookie with wagers. Playable names sit on the players hub.
