The Magus Circle Rum, Magus General
Homing blades, crits, a parry, and prestige spells for players who stand close.
Rum is the Magus General of The Magus Circle. On the 0.4.6 select rail he sits fifth, under Chicha and above locked Anchan, as a short older mage in a coat. He is the kit with the most public combat text after Milk, because the studio recorded a short about stealing a spell from Elden Ring and putting it in the game.
That spell is Spellblade, Rum’s signature. The designer described it as a replica of glintblade phalanx energy — the superior cousin of Dark Souls homing soulmass. This wiki is not those FromSoftware games. The useful part is the Magus Circle version: blades you summon, crits you build around, and prestige names you can actually look for in a run.
Steam lists 24 September 2026 for the full game. Treat the numbers and prestige names as demo-era / pre-launch designer talk. If a tooltip disagrees, the tooltip wins.
Spellblade, as the studio described it
- One Spellblade is summoned for each mana spent. You can play the spell as a trickle or as a wall of blades.
- The kit is designed around crit damage.
- An upgrade (the designer said a name that auto-captions heard as Estoad) causes Spellblades to not shatter on crit.
- There is a parry upgrade on the Spellblade line.
- Three prestige spells were named:
- Drenal — summons a greatsword to deliver the combined damage of all Spellblades in one blast.
- Ido — a quick slash to all nearby enemies.
- Lonlight Chakras — prevent blades from breaking entirely.
If you cannot find those names in your demo build, you are not crazy. Festival slices do not always ship every prestige. Check the in-run book. The spell sigils page lists other Tide spells you will still be offered: Ice Spear, Riptide, meteor swarm, chain lightning, magic missile.
How Rum wants you to stand
Milk wants near-misses. Rum wants the blades to connect, which means you are often closer than a bunny witch. That is a drawing problem. Your cursor is busy. The Tide is in your ribs.
Practical habits:
- Start the sigil earlier than you think. Spellblade that arrives after you are already hit is a funeral decoration.
- Spend mana on purpose. If blades scale per mana spent, a panic half-cast is a weak wall. Abort and Nimble does not exist on this kit — there is no Milk refund unless an upgrade says so.
- Crit is the identity. When a chest offers crit chance, crit damage, or “blades do not shatter,” it is on-theme. When it offers a random meteor swarm you cannot draw, it is bait unless you already have a second reliable glyph.
- Parry is not a substitute for movement. If you take the parry upgrade, practice it in a trash pack, not on the first Leviathan. Boss page: how to beat bosses.
Drawing still uses the same recognition rules as everyone else. Crude lines count. A tablet is optional. See how to draw spells.
Prestige spells without a fake rotation
Drenal is the dump. Stack blades, then spend them as a greatsword. Use it when a boss plants or when a dense ring needs one large number instead of a cloud of small ones.
Ido is the panic melee. Nearby enemies, quick slash. If you took Rum because you like standing close, Ido is the button that matches that bad habit.
Lonlight Chakras is the sustain identity: blades that do not break. Pair it with the crit-no-shatter upgrade and you are trying to build a persistent orbit. That fantasy dies if you cannot draw the base Spellblade while moving.
Do not invent a fourth prestige. Do not claim damage numbers the short did not show.
Tarot and run loot
Rum still shops in the Magus Mansion like everyone else. Demo-era cards:
- Empress Upright +10% Speed helps you survive the close range Spellblade wants.
- Empress Reversed +10% Mana Efficiency feeds the “one blade per mana” line.
- Priestess / Hierophant +0.5 Mana Regen same idea.
- Emperor +10% Duration helps if your blades or prestige effects linger.
- Magus listing Bunny Form is a Milk card. Buy it on Rum only if the tooltip says it does something for you.
The 250+ upgrade pool will throw off-theme gifts. The upgrade tier list explains types. For Rum, on-theme means crit, blade persistence, mana, and one coverage spell (Riptide for push, Ice Spear for poke) so you are not a melee statue.
First Rum run
Do not make Rum your first-ever mage unless you already draw well. Take Milk once, then swap.
- Wishlist and specs: wishlist checklist, system requirements.
- Confirm Rum is unlocked on your build. The screenshot showed him open.
- Lock Spellblade as the glyph you will finish even when the HUD is screaming. Other spells are extras.
- Look for crit and no-shatter text. Ignore fashion chests.
- If Drenal / Ido / Lonlight appear, take one and learn it. Three prestiges in one 10–15 minute extract is greedy.
- After death, talk in the mansion. Rum is story as well as a kit. The Circle’s narrative runs between attempts — how to play.

Demo versus launch
The Next Fest demo opened on 23 February 2026. Designer shorts can be ahead of or behind that build. If your Spellblade does not parry, you are not missing a secret bind — the upgrade may be gated. Festival context: demo guide and Next Fest. Date: release date. Official channels: Links.
Rum is the mage for people who watched the trailer, said “I want the blades,” and are willing to stand in the Tide to feed them. If that sentence makes you nervous, Milk is still the correct Circle member for run one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is Rum's signature spell?
Spellblade: homing blades, crit-focused, one blade per mana spent according to the designer short. See the spell tier list for other Tide spells.
What are Drenal, Ido, and Lonlight Chakras?
Prestige spells on Rum's line: greatsword dump, nearby slash, and blades that do not break. They may not all appear in every demo build.
Should I start the game on Rum?
Only if you already draw under pressure. Most players should start on Milk. Compare both on the character tier list.
Does Rum have a parry?
The designer described a parry upgrade on Spellblade. Take it only if the in-run card exists in your build, then practice before a Leviathan.
Is Rum single-player only?
The whole game is single-player. You cannot bring a second mage. Hub conversations are between runs — how to play.
